22nd of May 2010 GM unveiled a concept version of the Regal GS at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but at the time GM would not say if it was going to actually be produced. Tom Stephens, GM's vice chairman of global product operations, has now confirmed that the company will build the Buick Regal GS, but did not offer additional details about timing or volume.
The Regal GS will include many of the features seen on the concept. One possible change would be that Recaro high-performance front seats won't be offered on the final product, which on the concept model sported four-way lumbar support and cushion extensions.
The concept car came with a 2.0 liter turbo charged 4 cylinder, delivering 255 hp and 295 lb-ft to all four wheels through the torque vectoring all wheel drive system by Haldex, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The car can sprint up to 100 km/h in 6 seconds with a top speed of 250 km/h.
The all-wheel drive car also features suspension tuning, 20-inch wheels, large Brembo brakes and four-way Recaro front seats.
More details about the next Regal GS will come in the next few months. The production version of the Regal GS could hit showrooms in January 2011, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
