Fiat CEO turns up heat on unions over Panda production switch

Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat, declared for the press that, unless the unions agree to a productivity deal soon, Fiat will transfer the production of Panda from Poland to Italy.

To build the 3rd generation of Panda, Fiat plans investing up to 700 million euros in an old factory in Pomigliano, near Naples, Italy, considering that panda is Europe's best-selling minicar.

He later declared "I hope that a rapid solution can be reached because soon it will be impossible to accept further delays."

To make Panda production at Pomigliano a viable business proposition, Fiat has asked unions for “flexibility in shifts and work days, internal mobility and opposition to irregular forms of absenteeism,” Fiat said last month.
