Mercedes G-Wagen to receive more updates for 2011

An inside source at G-Klasse's manufacturing facility at Graz, Austria has reported that the G-Wagen will be getting its third update in four years following a minor facelift in 2007. The facelift version for the Mercedes G-Class will be completed just ahead of the Paris Motor Show.

The big updates to the G-Wagen will take place on the engine front, bringing the range into line with Euro 5 regulations. The old supercharged 5.4-liter V8 will continue to carry the G55 moniker, the last AMG model to do so, until the newly-developed direct injection V8 with twin-turbochargers comes along, in order to offer more power and better fuel economy and decreasing the medium fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The inside could get a total overhaul, most likely making it more luxurious and bringing it up-to-date with new age entertainment and the latest technology available on cars like the W212 E-Klasse. As for the exterior, the updates will be subtle, with a few almost invisible "nip and tucks", a new set of alloy rims for every model version, new lights, bumpers and other exterior features while keeping its distinctive box shape.

The new 2011 model is due for an introduction this September, most likely at the Paris auto show.
