Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special gets the green light for production

The Jaguar XKR Goodwood Special, which was unveiled at the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed, will be going into production and it's set to be the fastest production XKR yet. The vehicle has managed to lap the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 58 seconds.

"This is definitely not a level of performance anyone would have associated with the XKR before now," Jaguar boss Mike O'Driscoll said.

According to Jaguar's managing director Mike O'Driscoll, the new XKR derivative is "basically the production version" of the harder-edged XKR Goodwood Special concept which was revealed last year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Goodwood Special XKR from last year came with a power upgrade on top of the standard 2010 Jaguar XKR's 5.0-liter supercharged V-8. That means more than 503 horsepower on tap, likely as much as 530 horsepower and a maximum torque of 516 lb-ft of torque (700 Nm), a 13 hp & 55 lb-ft (74 Nm) increase over the level offered by the standard XKR.

The production version will be capable to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds, while it reaches a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).

The supercar also features a lowered suspension, 21 inch alloy wheels, and a tweaked exhaust system for greater sound. Subtle body changes should also feature, including a revised front splitter and a larger rear spoiler.

The production version of the Jaguar XKR Goodwood Concept will hit the market in the course of the following year.
