2011 Maserati GranTurismo caught testing

A new Maserati model is on the road, after being caught testing on the famous Nurburgring track.

The large rear spoiler with its two round tailpipes, mounted closer to the centre, let us think that the car spied here is a mule for a more high-performance version of the GranTurismo. The standard car features quad exhaust pipes mounted more toward the corners of the rear facade, and a slightly different rear under-bumper diffuser as well.

Others believe that the model caught here fuels speculation that it will be an even sportier version of the S, a GT SS, maybe the future replacement of the current GT S.

But the real tell-tale signs come from the GranTurismo MC Corse GT4 race car, which features the same exhaust configuration and spoiler arrangement as the spied car, though the road-going version here doesn't have the extreme front and rear splitter/diffuser combo found on the race car. This leads to the assumption that this car here is in fact a street legal version of the GT4 car presented last year.

More likely, the car caught is simply a facelift of the 3-year old GranTurismo, with possibly a bit of an upgrade under the hood, although no actual technical details were revealed.

First unveiled in 2007, the GranTurismo is due for a mild facelift. The current version comes with 450-horsepower, 4.7-liter V-8 continuing to power the car's rear wheels via an automatic transmission.
