Ford has released the first images of the facelifted 2011 Mondeo. With a revised exterior and interior design, the new model is fitted with two new engines and safety features as well.
The new model features an updated design inside and out for both sedan and estate versions. The front-end gets a new grille with extra chrome, a new bonnet, revised bumper, and LED daytime running lights. The rear-end benefits from re-designed rear lights also with LED technology, and a new deck lid spoiler.
The interior will get new materials which will enhance the "premium" feel of the Mondeo. The cabin is now fitted with a new flow-through centre console design, revised door treatment featuring flush and integrated door release handles, a new central overhead console featuring ambient lighting, a new sat-nav system and a "Premium Sound System" incorporating a 265-watt, eight-channel amplifier unit with 1.7-litre subwoofer.
Under the hood, the new Mondeo got two engine options. First is a new version of 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine developing 240 PS, along with the current 203 PS edition. The second one is the revised 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi engine which now delivers 200 PS.
Thanks to a number of fuel saving technologies including Smart Regenerative Charging, Ford Eco Mode and an Active Grille Shutter system, the new engines also have lower CO2 emission. The Active Grille Shutter system is an electronic device which regulates airflow through the radiator and engine compartment to reduce aerodynamic drag.
"This is the smartest, safest, most environmentally friendly and best quality Mondeo we have ever launched," said John Fleming, Ford of Europe chairman and CEO.
The new edition of the highly popular Ford Mondeo is scheduled to make its debut at the 2010 Moscow Auto Show on August 25.
