Porsche preparing a hardcore Cayman Clubsport

Porsche is working on the Cayman Clubsport that will go on sale in the UK this October. This is the first time that Porsche has offered a hardcore version of the Cayman

The car is fitted with a package of weight-saving measures, including a stripped-out interior, lightweight body panels, simplified lighting system and forged alloy wheels that together shave up to 100kg off the kerb weight.

The Cayman Clubsport will probably use the new 320bhp 3.4-litre flat six, now with direct injection, from the Porsche Cayman S, but reports indicate that output could be pushed to 333 horsepower for the Clubsport. A six-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential will be standard.

Thanks to the lower kerb weight, performance will be slightly better than the Cayman S’s 171mph and 4.9sec 0-62mph.

Porsche could strip nearly 160-180 pounds from the Cayman by removing A/C and audio equipment, while adopting aluminum doors, lighter seats, a Lexan rear window (in Europe), and lightweight wheels.

The exterior is also fitted with a unique body kit including a deeper front and rear bumpers, and a fixed ducktail spoiler to replace the retractable unit used on the standard Cayman.

Buyers will be able to order the Clubsport in either standard trim or in race spec. The race spec Cayman Clubsport comes with six-point harness, roll cage and fire extinguisher.

The Cayman Clubsport will have £4000 (5500 USD) premium over the Cayman S.
