Citroen GT production plans cancelled

Citroen officially announced that they will not produce the GT Concept, presented in 2008 at Paris Auto Show.

Citroen had announced last June to place their GT by Citroen concept in production phase, because of the impact which the GT concept had it at the Paris Auto Show. Unofficial sources even talked about a starting price of over $1.8 million and a reduced number of copies, just six, to be produced.

But plans apparently changed because this wouldn't be worth the engineering and developments costs to bring the GT to market. Instead, the company decided to canalize its efforts on producing cars that would give it better returns in terms of money, something like the sporty small car DS3 Racing.

The final production version was supposed to be completely inspired by the concept, from the construction using carbon-fiber material to the interior details with its eccentric touch like the copper trim. Under the hood the production model was expected to use an American V8 from Ford or GM.

The concept had been designed for Gran Turismo 5 with its electric drive and powered by a fuel cell that has no polluting emissions. The car is the result of a partnership between Citroen and Polyphony, designer of the driving simulation game Gran Turismo 5 on Playstation 3. This car was designed to offer stiff competition to the other cars of the same genre.
