VW is planning a Jetta coupe which would bring the Jetta in like with other compact sedans that offer a similar coupe offerings. Patent drawings of the upcoming VW Jetta Coupe have surfaced, which provides more evidence that VW is indeed going to release a coupe version of the new Jetta.

This car is of course based on the New Compact Coupe Concept which was displayed by Volkswagen at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) earlier this year, in January. These drawings show that the Jetta coupe is going to remain pretty true to the concept, except to some slight modifications. As you can notice from the drawings, these modifications include a redesigned front grille and an addition of fog lamps up front. Moving to the rear side of the car, the dual exhausts are now visible. These are generously-sized and use a complex, trapezoidal-like design, underlining the carís sporty intentions.

The car is very reminiscent of the Audi A5 with a Jetta front end grafted on, and comes with a 2+2 seating layout. The concept unveiled at NAIAS uses a hybrid powertrain, comprising of a 1.4 liter TSI engine, which produces 150 hp, and an electric motor delivering 27 hp, which relies on a lithium-ion battery pack placed at the rear of the car for optimal weight distribution.

The Jetta Coupe is expected to be offered as a production vehicle, hitting the market by 2012.
