The new Hyundai ix35 compact SUV has received two environmental certificates form the German TUV Nord organization. The move comes as the vehicle’s sister model, the Kia Sportage, has also received an environmental certificate from TUV Nord.
One of the initiatives for which Hyundai was rewarded is the company’s decision to use water-soluble painting processes to cut hydrocarbon emissions.
TUV Nord presented Hyundai with LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and DfE (Design for Environment) certificates after performing a rigorous inspection of the Hyundai Motor Company’s design operations and manufacturing site at Zilina, in Slovakia. The LCA (ISO 14040) examines the eco impact of both the vehicle and its overall production process, covering a car’s entire lifetime, considering materials used, engine emissions and methods used to cut fuel consumption.
