The hybrid version will be one of the most important versions of the car and according to the specialists the tree-hugging incarnation of the Optima is to appear first at the LA Auto Show, which is most probably to be held between November 19 and 28.
The powertain of the hybrid consists of the same 169 hp 2.4 liter four-cylinder Theta II engine, which is used by its internal combustion engine siblings, in order to work together with an electric motor borrowed from the Sonata Hybrid. The propulsion effort will be enriched with 30 hp brought by the electric unit.
When analyzing the efficiency of the vehicle, this is expected to return top figures playing in the 39 mpg league (considering the city driving mode) and 37 mpg (for the highway driving cycle).
This new model is supposed to be capable of offering an electric-only driving mode, but, as a consequence, its top speed will be limited to 62 mph/100 km per hour.
In the following weeks, showrooms across the US will be able to offer the 2011 Kia Optima, but still, its hybrid version will be available only next year.
A wide range of safety features is provided by the Optima, including six airbags , active headrests for the front seats, height-adjustable front seatables, three-point seatbelts for all the passengers, ABS, ESC and also a Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
