The drivers who own a battery-electric Roadster 2.0 belonging to Tesla Motors were called on a voluntary safety recall as some problems were discovered. The problems concern a potential fire hazard which implies an auxiliary power cable. The car producers from California stated that they realized the existence of this problem after a single incident in which an auxiliary cable touched the edge of a carbon fiber panel, thus causing a short smoke and even a possible fire behind the right headlamp of the vehicle. The respective cable is placed in the passenger wheel behind the right headlight, being part of a backup system, which is designed to provide power to the front and rear lights and turn airbags and signals when the system powered by 12 volt fails or even drops below a certain threshold. 439 owners of the affected Roadsters have been assured by Tesla engineers that this precaution measure does not affect the power systems or the battery pack in any way. Also, the vehicles which have a VIN ending in 500 or before are not affected as these cars do not feature a 12 volt cable auxiliary installed. The procedure lasts only an hour and it can be made at the owner`s home or even place of work, after an appointment has been made. Owners have been notified by email and post.
