Nissan and Mercedes-Benz develop a plan to maintain the Smart brand into the limelight

Nissan and Mercedes-Benz have built up a team in order to maintain the Smart brand in the limelight, planning to develop a Toyota Yaris-sized five-door hatchback at the end of the year 2011. Jill Lajdziak, the president of Smart USA concluded that the product lineup will offer a five-seat capacity without affecting the principles of efficiency and conservation.
According to the information released by the company, the car will be sold only in the U.S. with an architecture based on Nissan as the sketches presented feature in a clear way that the car is very similar to Nissan`s latest Micra supermini with headlamps, tail lamps and a Smart-like fascia.
Car fans seem to consider the sketches as being crudely done because Micra, as tad deceiving, creates the illusion of a sport model due to the fact that it has been squashed down.
Roger Penske, the exclusive distributor of this brand in the U.S. stated that the car model, a fully equipped small car, came as a result of the customer demand and sales and services will be provided by 75 smart dealerships in the United States.
A broader strategic cooperation between Daimler AG and the Renault-Nissan Group reveals the companies` intention of developing a platform which will be used to build the successors of the Smart Fortwo and the Renault Twingo.
