The next-geenration Beetle was spy photographed while undergoing tests in Europe

The most recent spy shots of the next-generation were taken while the car was being tested somewhere in an alpine region of Europe and what seems to be surprising is the fact that the car is pulling a trailer, meaning one thing: the engineers were testing the power of the next Beetle engine.
The engine will be available starting from the 1.2-liter 106 PS up to the 2.0-liter with 213 PS on the petrol side, as the diesel engine will be 1.6-liter TDI with 106 PS and a 2.0-liter TDI with 142 PS.
Taking a closer look at these photos, we can naturally assume that an interesting design feature is represented by the flattened roof which resulted in squeezed window lines and a more spacious interior, thus making the ride enjoyable and comfortable. Also, the windscreen and A-Pillar seem more upright and pretty different from the current model. Another difference is the way the back end slopes down, while the rear wheel arches bulge out.
The Detroit Motor Show in next January is expected to host the debut of the next-generation Beetle, which will then go on sale the same year, 2011.
