Saab and BMW agreed to share the FWD platform

Saab and BMW have reached an agreement in order to share some technology data concerning the new front-wheel drive platform, which is also known by the name FWD. This new platform is currently being developed by BMW, after they previously announced the building of such a model, featuring different body styles in order to compete against Audi A1.
Thus, the Swedish automaker wants the platform, too, in order to build the upcoming 9-2 minicar model. They had already announced their intention of sharing a MINI platform and the BMW representatives decide to go ahead with a new FWD model, a fact which considerably increases Saab’s chances of sharing technology with the German automaker.
Last month, an agreement between Saab and BMW was achieved, concerning the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, which is available with petrol or gasoline, an engine that will be used by Saab for building the next-generation 9-3 model, planned for 2012 launching.
