New 2-series to be revealed by BMW

This month BMW filed U.S. trademark applications for the monikers 228, 230, and 235. That means that the Munich-based firm will extend it`s car portofolio with new models below the 3-series by 2015. The -28, -30, and -35 suffixes are currently set to six-cylinder engines in BMWs other cars, a strategy that could be implemented to this models too, although it would not be a surprise to us if a car with four-cylinders will be launched in the 2-series. The rear wheel drive of the cars will probably evolve in new M2 models. It`s also possible that the 1-series will adopt front rear drive by 2015 and the hole will be filled by this new 2-series. And that it`s not all. Among the front drive 1-series, BMW is planning to launch two more models. Smallest in size will be the all-electric Megacity which will be a city car slightly bigger than a mini car and the second one will be a front wheel drive vehicle that will offer a new gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain, which BMW recently announced will be jointly developed with Peugeot-Citroen. The 2 companies already collaborated on gas four-cylinders front wheel drive system that is found on the Mini Cooper. This informations will only raise new questions about BMW`s future plans: will the mini (owned by BMW) will have acces to this hybrid technology or the M2 model will be ever launched? We`ll just have to wait for the answers to come.
