Pictures of the next-generation Mercedes SLK have been presented to the public, shots that were taken during tests in the Death Valley inn order to boast the panoramic glass-roof of the model, available with Magic Sky Control.
As one could face the low temperatures, driving without the roof is not always the best thing to do, or there are moments when the carís interior is too hot because of the panoramic glass-roof and this is when the magic Sky Control comes into action, a system, which, according to Mercedes producers, works on a plate condenser. This system contains some particles and they react to voltage. By simply paying 2,000 Euro and pushing a single button, the MSC becomes a panoramic roof which can be either transparent or darkened. This sounds as an earthly paradise, one where the drivers donít have burnt arms anymore or overheated armrests, being able to enjoy the sky while it is cold outside and not to get hot when the temperatures go up.
After having testes this magic Sky Control on prototype SLKs somewhere in the Death Valley, the Mercedes engineers concluded that interior parts managed to remain much cooler, more exactly up to 10 degrees Celsius, as compared to the cars which feature the already traditional green glass.
With rumours announcing that the car model will be one of the first SLKs powered by a diesel engine, we expect it to debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2011 or at the Geneva Salon and on the market, beginning with next summer.
