Abarth may plan to go on mid-engine roadster

Ever since Fiat relaunched the sports car brand, there have been repeated rumors which suggested Abarth’s intentions of producing its own sports car.
However, these rumors appear to increase, especially lately, pointing to a possible partnership between the Scorpion marque and either Lotus or KTM in order to design and develop as well a mid-engine roadster. The last piece of information revealed, reports only the Abarth involved in the production of the new model. It seems that the hesitance to work with Lotus is based on some personal reasons, according to which the Lotus CEO Danny Bahar left Ferrari, taking with him staff persons from both Maranello and Maserati.
On the other hand, the issue with KTM is originated by the carbon-fiber X-Bow, planned to be the base of the Abarth roadster, being much too expensive as compared to the low price sought by Fiat.
The result is an Abarth-built Lotus Elise, one that gets its power from the latest-generation MultiAir engine connected to the new dual-clutch gearbox.
