Europe's motoring press has chosen its seven finalists for the Car of the Year award: Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Dacia Duster, Ford C-Max, Citroen C3/DS3, Volvo S60/V60, Opel/Vauxhall Meriva and Nissan Leaf.
For the first time in the contest's history it is possible that a vehicle functioning on neither diesel nor gasoline wins the title. The Nissan Leaf functions solely on a lithium-ion battery pack.
Though it seems that the big prize could go to either Citroen or Alfa Romeo, it would be a breakthrough if Nissan won the title, since it's competing with conventional automobiles.
