NHTSA investigates Honda Accord hybrid for uncontrollable acceleration

A preliminary investigation has been opened by the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration regarding the Honda Accord Hybrid, after a 2005MY Honda Accord owner claimed she has gone through a car accident for losing the braking power subsequent to crossing over rumble strips, then experienced an uncontrollable acceleration. The passenger was killed in the crash into oncoming traffic, while the driver of the vehicle claims her being disabled and the occupants of two other vehicles also suffered injuries.
It seems that 22 other complaints were found in the petition, ones that involve Honda Accord and Civic hybrids, representing some incidents similar to the inadequate braking performance while driving on uneven road surfaces.
NHTSA is going to look into the problem and a decision will be made whether to recall the affected Honda Accords.
