Set to be piloted by the famous Alain Prost and after having finished on the second place last year, the Dacia Duster Ice will compete again in the Andros Trophy, a proof that the producers from Renault are considerably working on their image by updating this model which features a number of evolutions for the new season. On the 4th and 5th December, the opening round of the ice-racing championship will be held at Val Thorens, in France and the Dacia Duster will be powered by a Renault-Nissan-sourced 3.6-liter engine, delivering 350 hp and will also feature a tubular chassis with a lightweight fiberglass body. As the Andros Trophy events are held on rough, icy terrains, the car’s suspension has new shock absorbers, while the power is sent to all wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox. Furthermore, all wheels can be turned as the engineers decided to modify the electro-hydraulic steering system. From Alain Prost’s comments, we can conclude that this year they are aiming for the title, after completing two very positive days at Val Thorens last week-end, while during the competition from last year, they simply wanted and tried to be competitive, to take part and win races. Even more to these aspects, the image of the Romanian brand is improving for this budget SUV became a proud finalist in the 2011 Car of the Year competition.
