Audi Plans on Electric Vehicles

Recently, Audi has made public the company's plans concerning it's production of electric vehicles.

According to Franciscus van Meel, Audi's manager for electric mobility strategy, Audi plans on being the premium seller of electric vehicles by 2020. The car producer plans on creating a variety of hybrid models and electric vehicles in the near future, starting with their first plug-in hybrid to be released in 2014.

Though no more details have been given concerning their first such vehicle, their plan includes hybrid versions of the A8 sedan and the Q5 SUV for 2011, a hybrid A6 for 2012 and a range of electric cars that is to start with the e-tron version of the R8 supercar for 2012.

In order to develop and produce EVs, Audi has its own e-tron division and they assume that the rise of their e-tron electric vehicles is to rise to a six-figure volume by 2020. Van Meel also said that Audi plans on increasing the efficiency of its internal combustion engines.

Volkswagen AG plans on making the Audi group Number 1 in the hybrid and electric cars industry before the end of the decade and launch the full-electric version of its Up minicar in 2013.
