Ford unveils new concept model for Kuga and Escape successors at the 2011 Detroit Motor Show

An inside source from Ford recently informed Automotive News Europe about the company’s intentions of gearing up for next year’s Detroit Motor Show with a concept version which previews a common replacement for the European market Kuga crossover and the North American Escape SUV. It appears that the new compact-sized crossover model is scheduled to enter production in the second half of 2012 to be a 2013 model. A decision regarding the current names dropped in favor of a single moniker to create another global car in the likes of the new Fiesta and Focus models has not been taken yet by Blue Oval, while another objective on the Ford’s agenda is moving production to the U.S. Louisville, Kentucky is the likely manufacturing place for the new car, but the German factory in Saarlouis will keep the European production of the new Focus. Furthermore, the man in charge of Ford’s German factories, Bernhard Mattes, told Bloomberg this week that the Kuga/Escape successor may appear in Germany’s showrooms in March next year and in other European markets in the second quarter of the same year. Also, the Geneva Auto Shoe from March will host the debut of a Fiesta-based small minivan concept, one that is aimed to be a replacement of the current European-market Fusion crossover.
