New Volkswagen Golf R goes on sale in the USA

The North American market has positively received Volkswagen’s R and GTI-badged products and good news for VW fans informs them that the new Golf R has received the green light for America. Starting from 2012, the U.S.-bound Golf R will be launched in limited units and for a very limited time, but no specific launch date was announced. The Golf R32’s successor is already available in Europe and other markets, ditching the naturally aspirated V6 in favor of a turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI engine, with 270 hp and 350 Nm of torque, which brings it closer to the STi and EVO X. The R is available in both 3- and 5-door versions, also featuring the VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive with a Haldex differential. When the Golf R is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, it reaches a 0 to 100km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds and it registers 5.5 seconds when mated to VW’s optional DSG dual clutch transmission. Both case mentioned above provide a top speed of 250km/h, while we are looking forward to finding out more details about the U.S. version.
