The British Touring Car Championship planned to take place next year will show the comeback of the Audi badge with the British team Rob Austin Racing entering a pair of A4s in the series. The team took part in the Ginetta Challenge and in the 2008 British GT Championship and thus made a request to GPR Motorsport to build two A4s following, of course, the Next Generation Touring Car rules, which will be introduced in 2011, aiming to cut costs without affecting the level of performance of the cars. For those who don’t remember, we are eager to mention the fact that Audi managed to take the BTCC title in 1996 with Frank Biela driving an A4. Gary Blackham of GPR Motorsport officially stated that this great step was a fantastic challenge and they were convinced that the NGTC concept was going to provide BTCC a more exciting and competitive feature and they would enjoy the winners’ place and they were excited with Rob’s decision of joining the BTCC. We could make an idea of how the future racers will look like by looking at the adjacent rendering released by the team, while Rob Austin is making considerable efforts to negotiate with drivers and sponsors, hoping to successfully complete the necessary steps in order to get confirmation at the Autosport Show, scheduled to take place in January 2011.
