GM launches Opel in Australia next year

In September 2010 Nick Reilly, the Chairman of Opel, was hinting at the launch of the German brand in Australia, but now this information was officially confirmed at the Detroit Auto Show, as GM's European division announced the 2012 Australian market would receive the Opel.
Nick Reilly considers that the launch plays an important role in the international expansion strategy and the Australian market proved to be a great opportunity for Opel as it featured a growing demand for German technology and design. An official press report informed that Opel's offerings will include the Astra, Insignia and Corsa, with the full model line-up to be announced closer to the actual start of sales. It appears that Australian drivers feel a strong affinity for Opel vehicles and this brand will be positioned more upmarket targeting Volkswagen. Holden, GM's Australian subsidiary will probably continue to offer its customers Caprice and Commodore range, while the rest of the lineup will most likely comprise the rebadged Chevrolet and Daewoo models such as the Cruze, Captiva and Barina Spark. Thus, the German carmaker is strengthening its and sales and Australia becomes the third export brand for Opel after Chile and Israel launches. According to Opel representatives, Argentina, the Middle East, South-Africa and China are markets taken into consideration for launches.
