The new 2012 Passat unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show

Even if it was one of the most expected premieres at the Detroit Auto Show, the new Volkswagen Passat wasn't all that well received by the critics especially because of its design that mostly resembles the one of the Jetta, both of them braking apart from the smooth dynamic look of the previous models.
Still, even if the design isn't quite that impressive, the price will surely make a big fuss because the 2012 Passat has a starting price of about 20.000$, 7 to 8.000$ cheaper then it's predecessor. Still, while the 2011 model had the new 200 HP 2.0 TFSI engine, the entry-level 2012 Passat features the old 2.5 liter that reaches only 170 HP.
For the American market Volkswagen has prepared two other engine alternatives. First of all there's the powerful 3.6 VR6 engine with 280 HP and a 0-60mph (0-100 km/h) sprint of 6.5 seconds. On the other hand, for those who want to travel cheap we have a 2.0 turbo-diesel economical engine.
Also, the German manufacturer has announced that the 2012 Passat will be manufactured in the new Volkswagen manufacturing facility in Chattanooga Tennessee and will reach the American showrooms in mid August.
