A new electric car from Tesla

After its first big hit with the electric Roadster, Tesla wants to score one more point for the electric cars market. This time, the California based car manufacturer has raised the stakes and is preparing to launch its first grown up car.
About the size of a BMW 5 series, the Tesla S Road offers a whole lot of space inside and can fit in up to five adults and two children. Also, for its size the car is quite agile being able to get from not to 100 in just 5.6 seconds and leveling at a top speed just under 210 Km/h.
Being an electric car, the Tesla S Road will feature an electric motor connected to a single speed transmission and will also feature a floor mounted battery pack. Still, what's more interesting is that the customers will be able to chose from three different battery packs that will last for 258, 370 or 483 kilometers.
Yet for now, the S Road is in its first test phase called Alpha and in the future it seems that the car will see a second test phase called Beta and only after that, somewhere in 2012, Tesla will launch its S Road at a starting price of about 49.000$.
