Do you remember the new Beetle, that sweet reminder of the 60s? Of course you do, you may even own one of these flower power cars. So why do we ask?
Well, because recently, The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determinate that some of these cars have some safety issues as they failed the Federal crash test requirements that went into effect in September 2010.
Fair enough we could say, as regulations are put in place for a reason. Still, the solution found by the HTSA was rather funny: group VW has to replace about 27 Beetles with older versions manufactured before September 2010.
Yes, that's right; it's not about safety all together as the older models have the same problem of the crash test requirements as the ones made in September. But the HTSA just wanted to get VW lined up with the paper work, as the older bugs were produced before the fatidic 1st of September when those regulations went into effect.
For the moment Volkswagen hasn't issued a formal response to the situation but as we know, the German manufacturer is quite serious about its customers and it will most certainly comply with HTSA's request.
