Spy shots of the new 2013 Mercedes S-Class

Even if we still are in 2011, Mercedes has already started the work on its new 2013 Mercedes S-Class. A proof to that are the recent spy shots made by the guys over at worldcarfans that show such an S-Class prototype roaming around the streets of a small city in southern Germany.
As usual for this kind of "in work" concepts, the car has a thick blanket that covers most of its styling details. Even so, the front grille is obviously larger than the one found on the previous S-Class and the new headlights with LED indicators really resemble the ones found on the new CLS, or at least that comes in mind when you see the pictures below. Also, the overall design reminds somewhat of the F700 concept launched in 2007 at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
As far as the propulsion is concerned, the new S-Class may be a true premiere for Daimler as the German company seems to have in mind a hybrid engines only line of power plants, something that no car manufacturer has tried before. And even if the hybrid only line of engines will not be approved, it's a sure thing that the new S-Class will come also in the form of a plug in hybrid, thus offering competitivity as far as the rising fuel economy / low emissions regulations are concerned.
Still nothing is 100% official yet, as there is at least one year left until this unit will go into production.
