Suzuki recalls the Grand Vitara and SX4 models in the States

Improperly manufactured component of the tension adjuster pulley which could cause the drive belt either come off or slip and result in an overheating or stalling engine, has made Suzuki recall more than 32,000 Suzuki Grand Vitara and SX4 vehicles in the United States. The recall focuses on the 2009-2010 model year Grand Vitara SUVs powered by 4-cylinder engines together with 2011MY Grand Vitara car models which were produced prior to October 17, 2010 and 2011MY SX4s produced before October 14, 2010.
According to an NHTSA official report, the affected vehicles incorporate an improperly manufactured internal spring that risks breaking because of a repeated stress, caused by the tension adjuster pulley for the drive belt that operates the water pump, the alternator, power steering pump and air conditioner compressor. If the spring breaks, the drive belt will slip and eventually cause a squeaking noise, a fact which will force the driver to use an increased steering effort or, even worse, the engine can overheat or stall.
The replacement of the tension adjuster pulley with an improved part will be free of charge and the safety recall is most likely to start on or before February 16, 2011.
