Volkswagen addresses Jetta complaints with the new GLI model

The debut of the Jetta GLI at the Chicago Auto Show was meant by Volkswagen to represent an address to the European consumers' concerns. These concerns were related to the European market version of the Jetta, which was available with better and more modern engines, a four-link rear suspension system and improved materials, despite the fact that a hefty price increase came with these changes. Powered by Volkswagen's 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, delivering 200HP and a 207 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,700 rpm, this new Jetta GLI model is the most differentiated of all. It is mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox and an optional dual clutch DSG transmission is also available. Although the EPA figures have not been released yet, we expect the Jetta GLI to return 31 mpg on the highway featuring the manual transmission and 32 mpg highway when connected to the DSG dual clutch. Besides the turbocharged engine, the standard Jettas incorporate another significant change, embodied by a four-way independent suspension, which replaced the torsion beam setup available for the other N.A.- spec models. A Golf GTI's XDS cross differential system is available for the GLI and provides the prevention of the inside wheel spin when cornering, completed by beefier four wheel disc brakes featuring floating red calipers. The exterior shows style, safety and performance with a new front bumper, a honeycomb grille with silver accents, 17- or 18-inch alloy rims, twin exhaust outlets, as well as smoked taillights. Further premium quality emphasizes the interior with a sport flat-bottom steering wheel, sport bucket seats with red stitching, while the additional standard features incorporate iPod connectivity and a 6.5-inch touch screen premium VIII radio with Bluetooth. We are waiting for the Europeans' response, whether they are willing to pay for these upgrades, for the new Jetta GLI is priced at $23,495. $25,545 will provide customers with a better equipped GLI Autobahn, which integrates sunroof, dual zone climate control, 18-inch alloys, the Fender Premium Audio System, together with heated V-Tex Leatherette.
