Audi is developing lightweight R8 NF variant

After Lamborghini added significantly to the bottom line, with lightweight models, such as the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, Audi has also taken the idea of lightweight research. Thus, according to some rumors, into the halls of Ingolstadt, in Germany, the engineers are currently developing a lightweight R8, which is codenamed the NF. The details provided so far are quite poor, but we have seen a few prototypes featuring a complete carbon-fiber body, which includes the floor pan and the roof, and displaying a carbon-fiber rear bulkhead. All these changes announce a weight reduction of the car by around 20 percent, which is really impressive as it would imply the R8 5.2 losing no more than 337 kg, which translates into 743 lbs. A timeline showed by the German company indicated the launch of the NF in 2014, but there is a high probability that Audi is only making experiments with techniques that imply the use of advanced carbon fiber construction. The fact that Audi prototypes are undergoing crash tests suggests the NF is coming closer to dealerships.
