A new concept city car, named the Pixel, was admired at this week's Geneva Motor Show and it belongs to Tata, the Indian maker of the Nano. According to Tata representatives, the Pixel measures over three meters in length and it is considered to be the most efficient package four-seater in the world and provides space enough for four adults. The car presents some design features that are similar to those of the Pininfarina Nido, but, until now, there are no official reports which would confirm a collaboration between the two companies on the Pixel project. The maneuvering and parking in tight spaces are enabled by the Zero Turn system, which is the highlight of the Tata city car concept, while rotation of the outer rear wheel forwards and the inner rear wheel backwards during low-speed maneuvers, is provided by an Infinitely Variable Transmission. The result is a turning circle radius of just 2.6 meters. Another trait that catches attention is the fact that the Pixel's doors open upwards because the parking space is limited, which resembles the Pininfarina Nido as well. "My Tata Connect" represents an intelligent system used by the Pixel, which enables the driver to use his smartphone or tablet PC for the control of key functions. Just like the Nido, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which is placed in the rear, provides power for the Pixel. So far, Tata has not revealed whether it is rear-wheel-drive as the Pininfarina car. Thanks to the use of stop-start technology, low rolling-resistance tires as well as optimized aerodynamic drag, the Pixel produces CO2 emissions of only 89 g/km and returns a fuel consumption of 3.4 lt/100 km. In the near future, the concept is likely to enter production for Europe and the current CEO of Tata Motors stated that the car boasted environment-friendliness and optimal space.
