The new Saab 9-3 is likely to be launched on the market in 2012.
The 2012 Saab 9-3 test mule was again spy photographed and it showed some modifications on the chassis, more exactly a wider front axle. The first spy shots were taken in southern Europe in February and the vehicle appeared to incorporate extended wheel arches. The brand's enthusiasts are expecting the model to be a full body prototype which is soon going to be tested as its debut is planed to take place next year. Integrating parts sourced from other automakers such as BMW and being built on a modified Epsilon I platform, the 2012 Saab 9-3 will be available in both three- and five-door hatchback body styles. An updated 9-3 convertible featuring two variants of a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine which delivers 163 PS and 320 Nm of torque and 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque, was introduced by Saab earlier this month. These are the possibilities for the next Saab 9-3, but we recall Saab making an announcement last September, according to which the company's representatives purchased an agreement with BMW aiming to raise the possibility of additional or new power plants. The 1.6-liter turbo of the MINI Cooper comes in three output levels, 175 PS, 184 PS and 211 PS, while BMW's new 2.0-liter turbo may also be a strong candidate, delivering 225 PS. The new power plant in the X1 xDrive28i with an output of 245 PS (180kW/242bhp), has recently been unveiled by BMW.
