The Jaguar XF is considered to be undoubtedly one of the most impressive models in Jaguar's history for it pointed to a step forward when the company decided to change ownership, from Ford to India's Tata Motors. Currently, Jaguar engineers are working on a facelift of the XF, aiming to make its world debut at the next month's New York Auto Show. The version appears three years after the market launch in 2008 which followed the debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. A makeover will be applied to the car and incorporates a reshaped bumper, a redesigned front grille together with a new front fascia that features new lights. All these details bring it even closer to the C-XF Concept that served as a preview of the car. An upgraded suspension for improved handling and ride, tweaks for the interior as well as the introduction of new tech systems, make the XF attractive and easy to drive. But the most important news is embodied by the new 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, which is the result of the development of the Ford unit found in the European market Ford Mondeo and in the Land Rover Freelander. Jaguar engineers were faced with making several changes to the engine as the XF is a rear wheel drive and it sits in a north-south configuration. Overall fuel efficiency is increased between five and seven percent due to the new Stop-Start system added by Jaguar, while the 2.2-liter unit also boasts a new crankshaft, new injectors and a water-cooled turbocharger with low-friction pistons. Jaguar officials announced that the vehicle would return 52.3 mpg UK on the combined cycle and would deliver 190HP and 332 lbs.ft. of torque, emitting 149g/km of CO2. They also added that the car would be mated to a new eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, thus allowing facelifted XF to develop 62 mph in no more than 8.5 seconds and to reach a top speed of 140 mph, which translates into 225 km/h. More photos and specific details will be presented in mid-April. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
