Mercedes marks Unimog's 60th birthday with special celebrations

Unimog, Mercedes-Benz's truck, is celebrating this year its 60th birthday with a special anniversary party organized by the German car manufacturer on June, 4. The name "Unimog" is short for "Universal-Motor-Great", which stands for "universal motor unit" in German. It has been used over the years in different tasks which range from agriculture, construction, military, utilitarian work, security and expeditions. The event is scheduled to take place at the Worth plant in Germany, where the Unimog is built today and club members, fans, owners of classic vehicles as well as drivers and owners of current models are welcomed to take part at the event. An opportunity to tour the plant, an "Old against New" show, special demonstrations on the off-road course and a large exhibition of historical Unimog vehicles will be included in the anniversary celebration. The participants at the event will be able to enjoy the Unimog rally in which 60 vehicles will leave from the previous production location in Gaggenau via the Unimog Museum to the current production location in Worth. The celebrations will continue the next day at the museum with demonstrations of Unimog vehicles, together with book-signings and specialist presentations by famous authors of books on the Unimog. More than 300,000 units of the Unimog have been produced since 1951.
