Famous car movies were spawned during the 1970s and the most interesting were Vanishing Point, Two-Lane Blacktop and Gone in 60 seconds, for it represented the decade of big collars, microwave dinners and flared trousers. Vanishing Point represented something classic and it told the story of a guy named Kowalski, interpreted by Barry Newman, who made a bet that he was able to drive a white 1970 Dodge Challenger from the dealership in Colorado to a customer in San Francisco in juts 15 hours. This genre classic is now celebrated forty years after the debut of the film, with the unveiling of a special edition model by the long-time fan Bob Frederick and New Wilmington Dodge dealer. The 2011 392 Inaugural Edition Challenger SRT8, because the white version was not available for standard SRT8, was the inspiration for all of the "Kowalski Edition" cars. In a press report, Frederick explained that he met with the team and told them that he wanted a 2011 Challenger SRT8, six-speed manual, Bright White, stripe delete, Dark Slate SRT seats, WP3 Alcoa SRT aluminum 20-inch wheels, 730 Nav and SRT Option Group II, reminding them at the same time that the paint had already been in the plant and that the unique SRT8 parts had been in white as well, which made it logical that it was possible to accomplish his goal. The Kowalski cars are available with a wood grain Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, along with the usual assortment of custom stickers together with a uniquely numbered interior plaque. Unfortunately, only ten of these cars are going to enter production. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
