GM issues recall for 2011 U.S.-spec Chevrolet Cruze models

A new recall was issued by GM, concerning the 2011 model year Cruze, especially those units which were built for North America since its production began in the summer of 2010. It was built in Lordstown, Ohio, for the U.S. and Canadian markets and this compact sedan represents GM's second best selling vehicle in April. The number of units rises to 154,112. It appears that this is not the first recall, as 2,100 inspections were triggered due to a detached steering wheel. This new recall is also related to steering issue and GM announced that they wanted to check if the steering shaft had been properly installed, while the company's representatives did not mention if there was any connection between the two recalls, except for the fact that they would use the latest one action in order to check on another issue that might affect some 120,000 models featuring an automatic transmission. Their aim is to verify the proper installation of the transmission shift linkage. This steering shaft issue was discovered when a customer found himself in the unexpected situation of losing steering control in a parking lot, without being involved in an accident. GM specified that very few of the recalled models would have both problems and they have already improved their quality process less these errors should not happen again. As far as the automatic transmission problem is concerned, it was discovered when customers brought in their cars under warranty and no injuries or accidents related to the Cruze recall have been reported.
