VW premieres Sharan and Passat variant emergency vehicles

The annual RETTmobil exhibition hosted the presentation of a lineup from Volkswagen. The German car manufacturer dedicated it to emergency and rescue vehicles. Thus, the Passat and Sharan Variant as emergency vehicles were premiered by the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer, integrating new traits for its range of specialty cars. The Passat Variant boasts a four-wheel drive to the mix, while the engine and gearbox remains the same as the Sharan, mainly a 170HP version of Volkswagen's 2.0-liter TDI engine mated to a six-speed DSG gearbox. The Sharan is fitted with a remote speaker together with a special signal system incorporating LED technology. Both cars feature front and rear flashing and Candy White paint. A Touareg emergency medical vehicle was also displayed by the German carmaker and it appeared equipped with the 245HP 3.0-liter diesel engine, also featuring a special signal system with LED technology as well as blue front and rear flashing lights. Equipped with a run-safe model that allows the engine to function even if the leys are removed from the ignition, the Touran represents a covert police car integrating an accident data storage system.
According to a press release from Volkswagen, all emergency vehicles had a special suspension tuned to the specific needs of their job. Several new features were also showcased by VW and we can mention the headlight flashers, which are able to improve the visibility of emergency medical vehicles. The standard horn speaker is considered to be another useful and important as it makes the emergency vehicle easier to notice in traffic and at the same time it manages to lower the noise level in the cabin.
