Peter Norris, a British designer and an ex-Fiat Coupe owner, released a new study that is meant to hint at a future sports car model for Fiat, as the Italian brand was left without a coupe after the axing of the Fiat Coupe in 2000. The car model announces a more luxurious model, wearing the Pininfarina badge, thus hinting that this concept would not necessarily make a successor to the affordable Fiat Coupe. Peter Norris changed his mind halfway through the project and switched to a luxury coupe, thus explaining the Pininfarina badges on the car. It would be more of a successor to the 1960's RWD Fiat Dino, rather than to the late 1990s Fiat Coupe designed by Chris Bangle, as we judge from the drivetrain layout. The study embodies the essence of the Italian thoroughbred, featuring a front-engine together with a rear-wheel-drive. The wheels of this coupe sports seem colossal due to the sleek profile and the very low roofline, also showing an aggressive stance because of the massive wheelarches. The front end, especially with the shape of the upright bumper and the headlights, makes the enthusiasts think of the modern-day Aston Martins, while the rear end provides the coupe with a more elegant look thanks to its C-shaped LED lights units and central exhaust pipes. The designer stated that the concept represented a vision of a present day model, adding that the project started as a "reboot of the Fiat Coupe". He used to own a Fiat Coupe 16v Turbo and he did not have the heart to get rid of it, although it frequently broke down and cost him a fortune to repair in bills. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
