Like any other carmaker, Subaru is trying to set new records. Today a video was presented and contains very clear image of the carmaker trying to set a new speed record on the Isle of Man TT circuit. They not only just tried, but also succeeded. This is actually not a very big surprise, as Subaru managed to break a speed record that was intact for 21 years. Back in 1990, Tony Pond was the driver that at the wheel of a Rover 827 Vitesse set the record for 37.8 mile long course. This new super-driver is called Mark Higgins, British Rally Champion and set the new record at 19 minutes and 56,7seconds. He was at the wheel of an Impreza WRX STI and had an approximate speed of 113 mph during the race. He even managed to reach 162 mph. Subaru engineers were very honest in their declarations and admitted that the only difference between the 1990 car and the Impreza STI are the springs and dampers. These were created to ease driving on bumps on the track. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
