Lotus got us by surprise. In September the carmaker will launch a new rally car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The model is based on the Exige. When you first hear Exige your mind immediately goes to the capabilities on the road and on the track as well. We have to admit this is quite a huge surprise. The final details were not set yet, but the carmaker is thinking of building more than the 300 units necessary for the homologation. The model will be rear-wheel drive and the place it will race in remains still unknown; if it's the WRC or IRC, we don't really know. The carmaker participated at this year's 24 Hour Le Mans competition with Renault in Formula 1 championship and finished 7th in the GT class. The team made the first declarations and apparently it will compete in 2012 or 2013 in the LMP2 class and will use its own-built V8 engine created for the new Esprit.
