It's a fact that there are a lot of classic cars like Mustangs and Camaros on the American streets. Europe is proud with a model that now is celebrating 50 years of good work on the European roads. The model we are talking about is the Karmann Ghia Type 34. As a celebration, this weekend, many cars of this type will be present in Germany in Osnabrueck for a big gathering of more than 100 Type 34s. Also there will be a lot of Type 14, including a TC 145. The Karmann Ghia is actually a 2+2 coupe and convertible that was developed between 1955 and 1974 by the mechanics of the Beetle. The design has the signature of Luigi Segre of the Italian coachbuilder Ghia. It was also hand-built by coach-builder Karmann. The Type 14 was styled like the Karmann Ghia, but then the German carmaker introduced the Type 34 in 1961 and this one has a more angular body and has as base the Type 3 platform for the Beetle with a 1,500 cc engine. After the body modifications the Karmann was called in a lot of ways like: "the big Karmann", in Germany, "European Ghia" in the United States and "Razor Edge Ghia" in the UK. For a long time it was the most expensive car made by VW. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
