Aiming to develop and adapt the Japanese company's ASX small crossover for its two brands in Europe and probably other markets, the PSA Peugeot-Citroen Group signed an agreement with Mitsubishi more than a year ago. The latest spy photographs taken in Europe reveal the Mitsubishi ASX in a Peugeot-branded version. The car, which is known as the Outlander Sport in the USA and RVR in Japan and Canada, was undergoing some tests. It appears that the Peugeot model is planned to carry the 2008 moniker by judging the firm's current naming literature. One of the pictures provides the Citroen's version that follows the Peugeot model, except for the tail lamp designs and the alloy wheel, which are different.
Both the Citroen and Peugeot models are planned to hit the markets in the first half of 2012, implying that it is highly probable to see them either at Frankfurt in September or at next year's Geneva Motor Show in March.
There was a previous collaboration between the French group and Mitsubishi and, due to the fact that the Citroen C-Crosser SUVs and the Peugeot 4007 are both inspired by the Outlander, the main changes concerning style between the Citroen variant, the Peugeot model and ASX are most likely to take place in the body trim options and in the front and rear ends. According to some reports released by the French carmaker, the agreement with Mitsubishi decided that the Citroen and Peugeot models would make use of the 1.6-liter HDi diesel engine and would be available in both four- and two-wheel drive forms. PSA informed that the fuel economy of the front-wheel drive diesel would be less than 4.7 lt/100 km, while its CO2 emissions would reach 132 g/km.
