Six months ago, the idea of an Infiniti FX50 Performance Concept rose while Shiro Nakamura, who is Infiniti's Chief Creative Officer, and Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull racing driver and an owner of Infiniti and also Inifiniti's Global Brand Ambassador. Thus, the company engineers cooperated successfully and created a concept model that boasts a few changes as compared to the standard production version both in terms of design and technology. At the exterior, they focused on improving the luxury crossover's aerodynamics by providing a 20 mm lower chassis and an aero package that integrates new front and rear bumpers. The rear diffuser, side sills, mirror covers and the front splitter were made of carbon fiber. All thses changes result in a 30 per cent improvement in the coefficient of lift as well as a five per cent lower coefficient of drag. 21-inch black lightweight alloy wheels featuring silver rims, enhance the FX50 Vettel. According to Infiniti executives, the concept's weight was reduced by 46 kg as compared to the standard FX50S Premium at 2,049 kg. Stiffer springs and re-rated dampers are other changes applied to the FX40. The interior is exclusive and stylish due to the special sport seats covered in black quilted suede cloth, gearshift paddles, Alcantara used on the steering wheel, door panels, center console and dashboard trimmed in real black carbon fiber. The driver and passengers will undoubtedly have the journey of their life. The metal plate on the center console features the World Champion's signature, while the hood hides a lightly upgraded version of the standard's model 5.0-liter V8 engine which integrates a retuned ECU together with a new exhaust system that boost output from 390 HP to 420 HP. Adding a longer final drive ratio, Infiniti's engineers decided to remove the speed limiter, thus allowing the FX50 to reach a maximum speed of 300 km/h and a 0-100 km/h sprint covered in 5.6 seconds, being two tenths of a second ahead of the standard car. Sebastian Vettel commented that it was the first road car that he had helped develop as usually he had hundreds of engineers build a car for him and thus, it was fantastic for him to contribute to the design of a car. He added that he was very proud of the product that had his name on, a totally exclusive car, just as its driver. Subscribe to Car news by Email |
