The speed limit in the UK will go up to 80 mph

We were all used with the saying "speed kills". And so are several decisional institutions and that is why they have kept the speed limit at a low level.
Unlike all governments, the UK one wants to increase the speed limit on motorways from 70 mph to 80 mph starting 2013. This is what Philip Hammond, Transport Secretary declared.
What he said is that the current models can reach incredible speeds and this is the reality they want to accept. For this, decides to pass the "50 years ago" threshold and increase the speed limit. This way everyone has to win and as time is money, he also thinks of the huge economic benefits created by this decision.
49% of the drivers today break the 70 mph limit so, by increasing it they will just be in legality.
Because of the infrastructure and the increase of quality concerning the roads, the fatality rate was decreased since 1965 with 75%.
Hammond is very decided to go along with the proposal and hopes to make the change by the end of this year.
