Lotus has a little extra work to do. The carmaker recalled the Elise and Exige models produced in 2005 and 2006 because of oil leak issues. This problem could easily lead to fires and crashes.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration started the investigation back in July and found out that the models built between June 1st 2004 and November 30th 2006, are the affected ones.
Everything started from the first 17 owners that complained about oil leaks on the right rear tires that have been causing them problems with the handling. The report included this handling problem and one owner even reported a fire.
For the ones that own one of the models mentioned above, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released 2 phone numbers to call in case of problems. You can dial 1-800-245-6887 for Lotus and 1-888-327-4236 for the NHTSA.
