At this year's Tokyo Auto Show a new prototype for an electric roadster model was revealed, called the Teewave AR.1. This car is actually the result of a nine-month partnership between Gordon Murray Design and Toray Industries, which provided the materials.
Toray actually built a frame made of carbon fiber to reduce the weight of the vehicle. This is not all that contributed to the weight reduction. The seats, outer body panels and different other parts, were made of lightweight materials.
In the end, the car is 850 kg, including the 240 kg battery.
The model is powered by a 47 kW electric motor that is able to produce only 63 horsepower. This way it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 147 km/h. The new Teewave AR.1 offers a driving range of 186 km.
