Mazda wants to go back with the 2014 Mazda MX-5

There is no surprise in the fact that most new models are heavier, bigger and safer than the old ones they replace. One of them is the MX-5 from Mazda. The first one launched had 980 kg, in 1989 and the current model weights 1.095 kg.
There is no argue in the fact that it offers more space, but we have to admit, it's not that fun to drive, in comparison with its predecessors, the 1.6-liter or the 1.8-liter model. And another important thing is the fact that this new one is also more expensive.
The carmaker decided to return to the basis and will apply the Skyactive technologies it promotes to its next 2014 model that will be lightweight, cheaper to sustain, easier to drive and let's face it, more fun. The new MX-5 will weight 1.000 kg.
It's nothing sure yet, but it's expected to feature a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine. The handling will be on the first place, and not the comfort, like in the case of the majority of the current models.
